The Regenerating Past...

"Soso (Stalin) was also studying Karl Marx.... Marx was the leading socialist thinker of his time.

Socialism is hard to define, because people who called themselves socialists often didn't agree on what they meant by the term.... The one thing they did agree on was that people should not think only of themselves, accumulating riches at the expense of their fellowmen. The solution was 'socialism', putting the interests of society ahead of any one individual or group. Most socialists believed in democracy and wanted to bring about change peacefully, through free elections. They wanted the government to own key industries- steel mills, factories, coal mines, electric power plants, railroads, banks- and run them... but they also believed that citizens should own their own small businesses and that farmers should have their own land, provided they didn't accumulate large estates worked by poor peasants." ~Stalin-Russia's Man of Steel

I want to make two points here:

1> We did, indeed, vote in Obama through free elections. I find that it didn't qualify as a "free election" looking at the fact that the U.S. ranked 36th in unrestricted media, but that's another subject.

2> The government IS taking over our industries, banks, etc.
